To celebrate our five year wedding anniversary, Ryan and I took our first trip without the baby and spent the past couple days in Austin! Why Austin? We wanted to go someplace that we probably would never go to with kids and Austin has always been on our travel bucket list because of the live music and awesome food. We’ve never been to Texas and had the best time.

I missed my boy a lot but he was in great hands with grandma and grandpa and it helped that we could look at him on the baby monitor at night. And we got super cute updates showing our happy baby so we really were able to relax and enjoy our time alone.

Our days in Austin were spent eating, drinking, napping, going out at night to listen to live music and we even saw a movie! Like I said, all of the things are can’t really do at home with a baby (emphasis on the naps!)

We ate SO much delicious food including this lengua (beef tongue) which was awesome and not scary at all!

All you can eat sushi…

Yummy yummy tacos from one of the millions of food trucks…

And gourmet hot dogs, migas (breakfast tacos), crepes, empanadas, risotto, pizza, giant pretzels with beer cheese, and out of this world pork quesadillas. The food in Austin did not disappoint! Also, there were really great happy hour specials!

We even learned to two-step on our last night there.

Maybe for a different post I’ll write more of a review of Austin and our recommendations.  Overall our quick trip away was everything I’d hope it would be! And now I’m back home snuggling this guy.

A Beach Wedding

Saturday night Ryan and I attended our very first beach wedding (I feel like this is a right of passage here) and it did not disappoint! Our neighbors were the ones getting married and it was one of the sweetest, most well planned weddings I’ve ever been to. Here are some of the highlights in pictures!

What made the ceremony extra special was the inclusion of the groom’s kids. It was so sweet to watch how all four of them made vows to each other and the new family they were creating.

After the ceremony (there were 3 other weddings on the beach that night too!) we were driven by golf cart to the amazing beach house for the reception.

Meanwhile, Emmett was with his girlfriend at her parents’ house for the night…

Back to the beach house! The sunset over the marsh was amazing! We had the best time dancing and hanging out with our neighbors.

We decided today that the best way to prevent a post-wedding hangover is fresh, sea air so we spent the day on the boat!

And now we are all exhausted and in bed at 8pm. Such a fun weekend!

Shrimp Tacos with Cilantro Lime Slaw

It doesn’t technically get fall-like for a couple more months here, but the temps did drop from the 90’s to the 80’s which feels refreshingly chilly to us! I’ve been finding myself gravitating to warm recipes like chili, pasta bakes and apple cinnamon steel cut oats for breakfast. Plus I don’t think I’ve had iced coffee in at least a couple weeks! Only hot coffee for these “cool” mornings for me now!

Before the weather gets too fall-like, I wanted to share one last “summer” recipe with you! These easy, flavorful tacos are topped with cool, crunchy slaw. Here’s the recipe!

7 Months

My big boy is 7 months old today!

While he still doesn’t really roll over, he is great at sitting up and is so close to crawling!

Emmett loves when we sing “I’m a little teapot” and continues to love being outside and splashing in the pool. He is eating more solid foods and loves babbling to himself. He sleeps through the night but takes less naps during the day so I’m always trying to find ways to entertain him. He loves chewing on books more than reading them and took his first big boy bath this month! Now that he can sit in the front of the cart at the store, he loves shopping and flirting with strangers. Emmett laughs a ton and we love trying to find new ways to make him giggle.

We can’t get enough of this sweet, determined, love-bug baby boy!

Baby Yoga

On Fridays, Emmett and I try to make it to Mommy and Me Yoga at our local studio. It’s so dang cute and a really good workout for me because I’m doing yoga with a 20 pound baby! Emmett loved yoga this morning and was so smiley and giggly. Here he was just hanging out on the mat before class started.

Namaste baby!
