I reheated my coffee 4 times today.
Hope you had a nice weekend! Ours started off with a pediatrician visit for Emmett on Friday morning. Since he is already back at his birthweight we graduated early and don’t have to go back until he’s two months old! We also talked to the pedi about getting him on a feeding schedule and it has drastically improved how much sleep we all get at night. It’s pretty awesome. Em celebrated by taking a nap when we got home.
Friday night we had some neighbors over for dinner. Ryan made those awesome shrimp and grits I’ve posted about before and everyone loved on our baby. Even though I was a little tired and sore, it was fun to break up our routine and have some other adult interaction.
On Saturday Becca come with us to check out the Food Truck Festival. It was a beautiful day out and it felt nice to be outside, but the festival itself was kind of lame. Super long lines for mediocre food and the live music was kind of goofy. We decided to go get some appetizers downtown instead which was a much better choice. Here we are in the parking lot, right after Em peed all over us while we were changing his diaper.
It was almost 70 degrees here yesterday so we went to the beach to soak up the vitamin D. The dogs were thrilled of course! We grabbed some tacos for lunch (Emmett’s third time at a restaurant since he’s been born haha) and headed home to get ready for the Oscars!
Kelly and Bec came over and we had a little Italian dinner while we watched the Red Carpet. I really liked NPH as a host but man, did that show get long! We’ve felt kind of guilty about the lack of attention our original boys have been getting this week so we broke my Cardinal rule and let them come inside and hang out with us. They had to stay on their dog bed though but I think that made them pretty happy.
The three of us came home from the hospital in Sunday to the sweetest surprises! Becca and Kelly cleaned our house (!), made us treats, and left wine, flowers and balloons in the counter. These girls are seriously the most thoughtful people in the world.
Life is pretty dang good.
No seriously, I thought I would have had a baby by now. So far still nothin! Today is February 12th, little man’s due date. I know due dates don’t really mean anything and I also know that most first time moms go over their due date – I just had a feeling that he was going to make an early appearance!
After all of these weeks of waiting it was surreal to go to yoga yesterday and tell everyone that I am due tomorrow (remember when I was so embarrassed at yoga because I was barely showing?) and then this morning I woke up to a “Congratulations! You are 40 weeks pregnant!” email. I remember when these emails were telling me he was the size of a pea!
Even though I’m anxious to meet him, I am happy he’s enjoying his time in the womb and growing so he can be a healthy little baby. We have a doctors appointment this morning to check him out and hopefully I’ll have pictures of the three of us at the hospital soon to show you. I did get my eyebrows done yesterday so anytime you are ready baby, we are too!
I’m still 4 days away from my due date, but to say that I’m anxious to meet this boy is an understatement! Every twinge of my tummy makes me think I’m in labor but so far nothin’!
The girls and I took advantage of the 70 degree weather today and went downtown to King Street for their 2nd Sunday event. They shut King Street down for traffic so there’s tons of people, musicians, dogs and babies roaming the street. So fun!
Today was also a lesson in what and what not to say to a pregnant lady (both happened to me):
“You look so beautiful! And you aren’t even swollen!”
“WHOA that girl’s pregnant!”
In the past couple days I have done the following to try to get this labor started:
1. Lots of walks
2. Spicy dinners
3. Dancing every time Uptown Funk comes on the radio
4. Bouncing on my exercise ball
5. And yesterday I ate an entire pineapple because I heard that helps
I know I should be patient and enjoy relaxing and sleeping. I’m trying, I’m trying! It’s funny how you can wait a whole 9 months but then the last week seems like torture!
This black bean soup from Gimme Some Oven (one of the food blogs I check daily) could not be easier or more delicious. In fact, I think I’ll have it for lunch again today! It’s as simple as opening a can of black beans and a jar of salsa and throwing them into a pot – practically! It’s got to be good for you too! Black beans, salsa, some seasoning, and whatever toppings you like to throw on. Even with the dollops of sour cream that I put on mine, I still feel really good about eating this for lunch.
If I were you, I’d make a batch of this on Sunday, and bring it to work for lunch for the rest of the week. Just sayin’.
Happy rainy Monday morning to you! (well at least it’s raining here and I’m kind of loving it). How good was that game last night? I literally screamed at least 4 times – sorry to everyone else who was watching at our house. It’s not like I am even that big of a fan of either team, it was just so exciting! More on the Super Bowl in a sec….
It was such a beautiful weekend in Charleston! Friday afternoon I enjoyed the sun room with my babies. Sammy was so snuggly on my baby belly! I think he might have been kicked in the head a couple times but he didn’t seem to mind.
The rest of the weekend included dinner with Becca Friday night and a couple trips to the beach to try to walk this baby out and enjoy the sunshine of course! Did I mention it was 67 degrees here yesterday? The dogs love the beach more than anything. It’s so fun to see them surf the waves when they are going after the ball.
Okay, back to the Super Bowl. I loved the whole thing! The singing, the halftime show (with Ryan’s favorite Missy Misdemeanor Elliott!), the commercials, the game…oh and the abundance of food we made for 6 people, haha. Besides Becca and Kelly, we had a couple of our neighbors over to watch the game too. Makes sense that we made like 10 appetizers right?? We had bbq pulled pork in the crock pot, cheese dips, these taco pizza rolls that I’ll probably never make again, yummy dessert bars, and two of our ol’ standbys that are a hit every time.
Ryan’s Guac (inspired my dad’s recipe)
Ingredients are to taste, but here’s what we put in ours:
-Lime or lemon juice
-Green Tabasco Sauce
-Salt and Pepper
7 Layer Greek Dip
The ingredients of this dip can be altered to suit your preferences as well. Here’s what we layered ours with this time, based on what we had at the house. The bottom layer should always be hummus, but the rest can be ordered however you like.
-Hummus (store bought)
-Homemade Tzatziki (here’s the recipe I used this time)
Serve with cut up pita or chips.
Is it lunchtime yet? I’m ready to eat our appetizer leftovers again…
